Describes and applies methods for the solution of problems on the energy and time dependent behavior of either neutrons or photons in systems with arbitrarily complex shapes and compositions. The theory is illustrated in-depth for both test problems and problems that arise in practical situations in the fields of nuclear power and mineral prospecting. Assumes no previous knowledge of the finite element method or transport theory, but takes the reader to the frontier of research and illustrates the value of this new and deterministic method as a complementary tool to the stochastic Monte Carlo method. Treats both source and eigenvalue problems for the steady state and follows this with a treatment of time dependent transport.
