Parent in peace

While a major part of parenting is correcting and picking up the pieces, it should be based on lessons learned and not the same things over and over. I felt my children should know the basic rules and expectations of their home and follow those without question. I felt that if they did not follow them, as long as I was clear with my expectations and used age appropriate expectations, they should have consequences. So I created The Consequence System to support my family rules and boundaries. I also implemented Awards to reward them for following the basic rules and expectations.During this process I noticed that until I wrote the basic rules and expectations down that they often changed and with that my children did not know what to really follow and if I really cared if they followed them. For this reason, I established and wrote down for them, a set of household rules and expectations. Coupled with the consequences and awards, what happened from there was pure peace. I stopped nagging and yelling and they stopped whining and yelling back and started really listening. Occasionally, there has been isolated drama, but once handled with the system we have in place, it all works out and we Parent in Peace.
